Dear
Leo Lover,
Thank you for your interest in a Leonberger puppy from Tir na nOg
Leonbergers.
We want our Leonbergers to live long healthy and happy lives with their
families. We must be sure that you can provide the time attention and, loving
care that all our puppies deserve and need. I want to keep in touch for the
entire life of these puppies.
It is important for us to know what you are looking for in a pet and what
activities you plan to do with your Leonberger. Some folks want a couch potato
to watch TV with and go for light walks; others want a hiking partner, show dog,
or even a canine athlete. We want to place the appropriate puppy with you. All
our puppies will be evaluated for conformation and temperament at around 8 weeks
of age so that we can select the right puppy for your household. This does not
guarantee how a puppy will turn out as it matures but it is the best early
indication of a puppy’s physical make-up and personality. We
have put a lot of effort into breeding sound Leonbergers with wonderful
temperaments, excellent health, intelligence, stunning good looks, type, and
structure. Our Leonbergers are raised lovingly in our home as a part of the
family. We will expose the puppies to a variety of new experiences so they will
be well prepared for what the world has to offer them. We will also start them
on early training so that they begin the learning process before they arrive in
their new homes.
To
reserve a puppy, please send a deposit of $500. This deposit is refundable if
there is not a puppy for you in the litter requested. When you pick up your
puppy $200 of this deposit will then become your deposit on your puppy’s
health tests to be performed on or after two years of age. This is done so that
the Leonberger Health Database will benefit from information on all Leonbergers
not just the breeding potentials. These tests are extremely important for the
future of the breed. This deposit will be refunded upon submitting the results
of OFA hips, elbows, and thyroid exams, CERF eye exam, and LCA health survey to
the LCA and myself. The
Leonberger is a large and fast growing breed and needs to be properly trained
before adolescence to avoid potential behavior problems. It is for this reason
that I require that all Tir na nOg puppies attend (at an minimum) two obedience
series (Puppy kindergarten and Basic Obedience). I also offer a refund of $50
off the purchase price for every puppy we breed that receives a CGC and/or a
Therapy certificate after 18 months of age. I will further extend the offer to
another one time refund of $100 to every Tir na nOg puppy that obtains a CD
obedience title (or other working title such as water rescue, carting, herding,
that requires advanced obedience skills). So keep those puppies working! I would
be happy to help you find or select a trainer and answer any questions regarding
the training of your Leonberger puppy. I
also need to explain Tir na nOg Leonbergers registered names. In the LCA each
litter is assigned a letter, A for the kennels 1st litter, B for the 2nd, etc.
Next, our kennel has a naming theme, all of the puppies registered names must be
selected from Celtic Mythology. This does not have to be what you call your dog.
I will provide a list of Celtic Mythology names to choose from and a brief blurb
about what they mean, I have more information on many of the names.
