Belenus means bright and shining, he is the sun or solar god, dispenser of light, healer, the god of death and life and father of gods and men. His worship was widespread, numerous sanctuaries and places were named after him. Beltaine, a feast and bonfires were celebrated on May eve, was celebrated in his honor for having gained victory over the powers of darkness by bringing the people within sight of another harvest.
