The Second Week The eyes are starting to open so few pictures were taken until 3.5 weeks. Puppies eyes at this stage are very sensitive. At just over 2 weeks the litter started to eat gruel and by the end of the week were lapping up water.
The Third Week Puppies have moved into the big whelping box in our livingroom. They are now walking, running, barking, playing with toys and each other, wrestling, and generally little dogs. We are starting to see different personalities for each puppy.
The Fourth Week The puppies are now up and playing for several hours per day. They have greatly increased their food intake. They are getting better about using the litter boxes and by the end of the 4th week will have wood chips only in the boxes. They are getting much more use out of their toys and playing games with each other now. Almost all the puppies sit automatically for attention now. They are now very comfortable with their daily body rub down, nail grinding and combing, The Fifth Week The puppies are getting so big now! They are all very coordinated now in their mobility. Playtime is loads of fun, I love nothing better than watching the puppies wrestle, play bow, paw and otherwise play with each other. The wood chips are now only in the litter boxes and we have been 100% for a few days now on pooping in the boxes, but the pee still happens where ever the fancy strikes, but often they do make it to the box to pee. We are beginning to see some real pack now. It is a joy each day to get to know the puppies personalities. I took the stack pictures on the day they turned five weeks old, Fifth Week General Shots The Fifth Week Every time I look at them they have grown!!! This past week they each gained 3 - 4 pounds. They are now spending sometime outside on nice days and walks taking around our yard in the early evenings. They love to explore in the grass, play with Seamus, and chase bugs. They had their first bath this week and all did well. In true Leonberger fashion two puppies rolled in the muck outside on the very next trip! A few have begun to chase and fetch a ball when it is thrown. Everyone knows sit now and most of the time they will all sit for attention and meals. The pups have become comfortable with changes in location and are most secure and comfortable in our trips out to the yard or other rooms of the house. So much so that often now I have to keep watching and counting pups every minute as they now sometimes wander away. Any of the pictures can be enlarged by double clicking on the picture
